In my previous post entitled Friendster Post Bulletin Hack Attack I posted last July 17, 2006, that gave me my highest blog traffic so far for this blog has received with almost 3000 unique IP hits in 2 days. Probably from people searching about the topic that were victims of the low-threat worm and I was the first few that blogged about this Embassy VIP boob flash Friendster bulletin worm.
As I have mentioned in my initial investigation that the script used was part of the Overlay Generator found on the website markyctrigger.com. It ends up that the owner of the site, Mark Loreto had no problems revealing his identity and I find it kind of funny how small the world is since we actually know several common people.
I was first IM’d by Ms. Sharon Dela Cruz of Informatics Computer Institute at Commonwealth ave., Quezon City, Philippines, who was my co-teacher at the same school 3 years ago. And told me she read my post and told me that Mark Loreto, her student at the school felt bad about my post and what I wrote since it seemed that the website markyctrigger.com seemed to be the culprit of the Friendster Embassy VIP boob flash Friendster worm.
I was quoted in the PinoyTechBlog, by J. Angelo Racoma about the same topic and he then mentioned this:
AO’s Benj Arriola checked out the script used to facilitate the spamming and traced its origin to www.markyctrigger.com, which I think was just used as a tool to run other scripts, and not the culprit itself (or was it?).
And J. Angelo Racoma does have a point.
Mark Loreto, creator of the Overlay Generator that can be used on various social networking sites which is the same script used in the Friendster Embassy VIP Boob Flash Post worm openly defended his work, as he left a comment in my previous post. Thus this post also serves as a shout out for Mark who does really seem to be a nice kid and did not mean any harm. It looks like he did create a cool tool that was abused by others.
Maybe the real person behind it was from Embassy VIP, a bar in the Philippines finding some way to make a buzz and promote itself. I apologize in my previous post if ever if my previous post seem to appear that markyctrigger was pulling off the trigger for this.

Yes, Benj. Any tool can be used for malicious deeds. Thus, with great power comes great responsibility.
Errr, teka, Superman season na yata this year.
Friendster should take heed and restrict people from customizing their profiles too much. We get to solve two problems: (1) security threats; and (2) crappy profile pages.
Cheers.
Angelo
P.S. Your CAPTCHA seems strong.
